Nuwara Eliya is often called Little England, and on a misty morning with a fire crackling in a colonial bungalow, you can see why. At around 1,800 metres, it’s the coolest town in Sri Lanka, surrounded by rolling tea estates, waterfalls and strawberry farms. We packed shorts and thongs and spent our first evening buying a jumper.
Here’s our guide to where to stay in Nuwara Eliya for Australian travellers, from heritage hotels to tea estate bungalows. For the wider area, see our Kandy to Ella train guide.
