Why go
Why Australians fall for Galle
Galle feels different from anywhere else in Sri Lanka. Inside the UNESCO-listed fort, Dutch-era villas, churches, mosques and boutique cafés share narrow streets that end at the ocean. Outside the walls, palm-fringed beaches, surf breaks and whale-watching harbours stretch along the south coast.
It’s compact, walkable and easy to combine with a beach stay, which makes it the perfect first or last stop on a Sri Lanka holiday from Australia.
